WHA conducted a medical, eye and dental mission in Myanmar in Southeast Asia from March 31-April 12, in conjunction with Myanmar Maternal and Child Welfare Association (MMCWA).

            
WHA Executive Director, Doctor Thien Do said the mission is "the largest World Health Ambassador project to date, with team members from USA, Canada, and Vietnam."
 

MMCWA focuses on safe motherhood program, disease control, eye care, dental care, and health education. It invited WHA to assist in this endeavor.  "By supporting and building the capability of local health care services, WHA is committed to building bridge of friendship and promoting cultural understanding between the people of Myanmar and United States," Doctor Do added.

         
In March 2013, WHA's Diplomacy team completed a successful site survey to Myanmar. It spent a week visiting orphanages, hospitals and outreach clinics in and around Yangon, Mandalay, and Nay Pyi Taw.  Located between Thailand, China and India, Myanmar has seen more than its fair share of wars and colonization by foreign countries.  As reported by a recent WHA diplomacy team, visiting Burma is like going back in time. Its people, cultures and architectures have remained largely untouched for many decades.  WHA noted that the country, recently opening up to the western world, needs lots of help to develop and expand its healthcare system. Until recently, Myanmar received little assistance from the outside world.

World Health Ambassador was established in 2005.  Its core mission is to collaborate to serve the health of global communities through effective, innovative, and sustainable programs.  WHA delivers excellent, quality, innovative health and relief efforts to countries and population of needs through effective collaboration with other governmental, non-governmental, academia & local health professionals to enhance healthier lives.
