Ham Tam Medical Mission

The Ham Tam medical mission was completed on October 19th and 20th, 2013. The medical and dental team treated thirty orphanages at the Ham Tan orphanage center and then moved on to take care of thirty psychiatric patients and staff of the Supporting Center for Elderly & Disabled People of Binh Thuan Province.

The purpose of this mission was to assist our orphanage partner, The Big Big World, in providing care for the Ham Tan orphanages and nearby residents. The Big Big World program has been providing support for the Ham Tan Orphanage center for several years and several of its members were present to lend support during this mission. We are glad to have had the opportunity to provide medical and dental care for these children. Our team was headed by infectious disease specialist Dr. Doanh Lu, dentist and professor Hoa Tran, and dentist and professor Tomy Luong. The medical team included an ophthalmologist. The dental team was well equipped to perform restorative dentistry out in the field. This was the first time a WHA humanitarian mission consisted entirely of our WHA team members residing in Vietnam and was a huge accomplishment for our program.
