WHA Medical Mission October 2012
October 13-27, 2012
Quick Summary
WHA is now preparing for a joint medical, dental and ocular mission with Project Health International and Big Big World to Vietnam in October of 2012. During this two week mission WHA will be visiting the Ben Tre and Phan Thiet regions. WHA will be looking for medical and dental health professionals and support staff of all professions (medical and non-medical). The team has a special interest in recruiting primary care physicians, pediatricians and cardiologists. The work and travel are demanding and the mission team will be immersed in the local cultures.
Detailed Outline of the Mission
WHA is currently planning a joint, multi-program mission to Vietnam. The mission will include medical, dental, and optical treatment programs along with a medical education program. To accomplish all four objectives, WHA is joining forces with Project Health International (PHI) and Big Big World (BBW) to provide much needed healthcare to those living in the Ben Tre and Phan Thiet regions. In addition, WHA will conduct a cardiology training course at Ben Tre provisional hospital. PHI is an eye care group consisting of ophthalmologists and optometrists that have been providing eye care to the people of Ben Tre for several years. BBW is a small orphanage provider in Phan Thiet that is based in Virginia. The city of Ben Tre is located in the southern province of Ben Tre and is situated in the delta of the Mekong River. The entire province is criss-crossed with a network of small rivers and canals. Ben Tre is a major producer of rice for Vietnam. Phan Thiet is the capital of Binh Thuan province situated on the coast of southern Vietnam. It is the largest city in Binh Thuan and its major industry is fishing. Phan Thiet is a relatively dry region with most of its terrain consisting of rocky mountains and sandy hills backing up to the South China Sea. WHA is now requesting volunteers and donations to make this mission a success. The mission will be two weeks long, set for October 13th through October 27th 2012. Each volunteer will be responsible for their own expenses set by WHA that will include airfare, hotel, meals, uniform scrubs, transportation, emergency overseas, travel insurance and 2 day rest period at the end of the mission.
